The Only 7-Day Mongolia Naadam Festival Itinerary You Need (No Burnout – Horse Racing, Wrestling & Nomadic Culture)

Hey there, my horse-riding, eagle-hunting, ger-staying adventurers! It’s your Silly Travel Guru, currently imagining myself cheering at a Naadam wrestling match while eating fresh mutton and watching the vast steppe stretch endlessly.

Naadam Festival (July 11–13) is Mongolia’s biggest cultural celebration — the “Three Manly Games”: horse racing, archery, and wrestling. This 7-day itinerary is built for real humans who want the full Naadam experience without the usual chaos and exhaustion. You’ll get the epic festival energy plus authentic nomadic life, all at a comfortable pace.

Day 1-2: Arrival & Ulaanbaatar Introduction

Base: Ulaanbaatar (convenient for festival access)

  • Day 1: Arrival & Easy Acclimatization Fly into Chinggis Khaan International Airport. Transfer to your hotel and rest. Afternoon: Gentle city walk around Sukhbaatar Square and the Mongolian National Museum for context on Naadam’s history. Evening: Try traditional Mongolian food (buuz, khorkhog) at a local restaurant.

  • Day 2: City Exploration & Festival Prep Morning: Visit Gandan Monastery and the Zaisan Memorial for panoramic views. Afternoon: Shop for traditional deel (clothing) or souvenirs in the State Department Store. Evening: Relax at your hotel and prepare for the festival days ahead.
