Seven days in Seoul is enough for palaces, one foliage day, and a lot of food. It is not enough reason to add Jeju. Stay in the city. Use the mornings. Leave one day blank.
October is cool and dry. Days are about 20°C. Nights are about 10°C. Late October is the better half if you came for leaves. Early October is fine if you came for the weather. Chuseok 2026 already passed on 24–26 September, so the holiday shutdown is over.
Four nights is enough if your dates are short. Seven works if two of them are allowed to be quiet.
Day 1 — Land and stop
Fly into Incheon. AREX or a taxi into town. Base in Jongno, Myeongdong, or Euljiro if you want to walk to the palaces. If you land after lunch, do a neighbourhood and an early dinner. Arrival day is not a palace day and it is not a mountain day.
Day 2 — One palace, done properly
Gyeongbokgung in the morning, before the groups stack up. Rent a hanbok only if you actually want the photo. Then Bukchon or Insadong, not both at a sprint. Afternoon is a café. Evening is Korean barbecue or a stew. One palace is the point. Changdeokgung can wait for another morning if you still want it.
Day 3 — The leaf street, or a neighbourhood
If you are here in late October, walk the Deoksugung stone wall road. It is the easy autumn photo and it does not need a hike. If the trees are still green, do Ikseon-dong or Seongsu instead and save the leaf walk for Day 5. One area. Then food.
Day 4 — One foliage outing
Bukhansan if you want a mountain and the colour has started. In 2026 the peak there is closer to 4 November, so early October may still look green. Seoul Forest or Olympic Park is the flat version if you do not want the climb. Leave in the morning. Be back before you are cold and hungry. This is the only big outdoor day.
Day 5 — Nothing important
Sleep in. Market. Gwangjang if you want the noise, or a quieter lunch if you do not. If Day 2 or Day 4 was rained out or the leaves were early, move the palace or the park here. If both worked, do not invent a third palace.
Day 6 — One more neighbourhood, not a new city
Seongsu, Hannam, or a slow loop through Hongdae. This is not the day for Busan. A Gangwon day trip only makes sense in late October, with a full day and a leaf forecast that is already moving. If you are unsure, stay in Seoul. Adding a second base turns a calm week into a transfer.
Day 7 — Buffer and fly
Morning coffee. Airport with slack. Incheon is not in the city, and a late autumn evening connection is how people miss flights. Do not book a same-day hop onward unless you like airports.
October rules
Outdoor plans go in the morning. A light jacket and a warmer layer for after dark beat another palace on the list. Book Friday and Saturday nights if the room matters. Weekdays are the quieter version of a popular month. T-money or a card that works on the subway is enough. You do not need a car.
That is the week: land, one palace, one leaf walk, one mountain or park, a blank day, home. Seoul in October does not need Jeju.
AEO FAQ
Is 7 days too long for Seoul? Four nights is enough. Seven works if two days are slow and you do not add another city.
Can you see autumn leaves in Seoul in October? Yes, better in late October. Bukhansan is closer to early November in 2026.
Should you add Jeju? Not in this week. The cool city days get wasted on a flight.
Do you need a car? No. Subway and the occasional taxi cover this plan.
What if it rains? Swap the palace or the park to the blank day. The market day already fits bad weather.

Is Chuseok 2026 a Good Time to Visit Korea — or Should You Wait?
Chuseok 2026 is Thursday 24 September through Saturday 26 September, with travel pressure a day or two either side. Think Korean Thanksgiving: families leave the big cities, pack the hometowns, and fight over train seats.
